Guest Designer at Card Patterns

     I'm so excited to be able to share this card I made as a Guest Designer for Card patterns. If you'll remember back a few weeks, I posted a little peach and green ballerina. Well, that little sweetie won me a Top Six and Guest Designer spot for Card Patterns.

     The card is based on sketch #113 and I decided to go with another Lili of the Valley stamp.  This is another first inking and it's colored with Copics.  I've used some more of my fantastic K and Company Julianne paper pad.
     Here's the sketch.  It's a great one by Nina Brackett, and I'm sure they'd love for you to play this weeks challenge.

For Mom

     It's time for Mother's Day again!  Where is this year going?
     My Mom is a huge flower lover so I HAD to do flowers for her card.  I love the lattice look so I decided to do the card in that style.  All the flowers are made from punched white cardstock.  The largest pink ones and the daisies were colored with Glimmer Mist and then inked with a little Distress ink.  Here's a close up of the flowers.

     I went around the edge of the cream paper with a gold gel pen which made me a nervous wreck.  I just knew I was going to mess it up. 
     The butterfly was made from vellum.  It was stamped, embossed with clear embossing powder, and colored with Copics. (I had to sneak a little coloring in there {grin})  I even went around it's wings with a little of the gold gel pen too.

Papercraft Star Challenge #43

     Yes, yes, I know.  I can hear you all scratching your heads and muttering "where did this come from"?  All I can say is blame it on this weeks photo inspiration at Papercraft Star.  LOL Candy and bright red and yellow just reached out and slapped me so this is what evolved.  This is my first ever Magnolia.  My sweet sweet friend Silvia sent me a ton of stamped images to play with and this was one of them.  I immediately grabbed it because of the lollipop.  I mean, it couldn't go with that photo any better.  Then I won the candy cart image over at Make It Colorful with old Mexico Phil and Horhay and look what's sticking up out of it--lollipops!  What else could I do but combine the two. {grin}
     I'm happy with the card other than the Tilda.  I think I should have colored her clothing something besides pink--probably yellow--but I went with the pink and there was no going back since I only had one copy of the image.
     I think you all have probably figured out by now that I'm a pretty eclectic card maker.  You never know what you'll find here.  LOL

A He-man birthday

     I am having so much fun doing these "character" cards.  I hope you guys get as big a kick out of this muscle man as you did Mexico Phil.
     This card is for my future son-in-law.  He loves to go to the gym.  Now don't get me wrong.  He looks NOTHING like this guy and doesn't want to, but he does love to work out.  When I saw this image at Mo's Digital Pencil I knew I had to make his birthday card with it.  My daughter came up with the ticket sentiment. :-)
     It doesn't have a lot of embellishments.  I told you he's a muscle guy so I ceratinly couldn't put a lot of frou frou on his card.  The images are colored with Copics and a little chalking for the sky.  I had a bunch of those blank tickets from Making Memories so I used my computer to make the sentiment and printed it out on the ticket.
     Hope Mr. Strongman gave you a chuckle today.

The Kraft Journal Challenge #16

      Wow, can you believe it's almost May already.  This year is just zipping by!  Our theme this week at The Kraft Journal is "May Day".  I haven't worked with vellum for quite a while so I decided I'd break some out for this card. 
     The card base and two mats are created using Kraft Outlet's Brown Kraft  and Buff Ivory Coverweight cardstocks.  There's some pretty blue Bazzill thrown in there too.
     For the flowers I inked up my stamp with some Versamark and then added some white embossing powder to really make the image pop on the Translucent Vellum.  It looks so delicate and pretty.
     There's a little 7 Gypsies Venice Gaffer Tape and Victoria Seam Binding.  The sentiment was printed out on more of the vellum and then covered with clear embossing powder to keep the ink from smearing.  I tied a little bow with some green Baker's Twine around the Seam Binding.
     I love the cream, kraft and blue color combination and how that white embossing powder looks on the vellum.  Hope you like it too.

Tell me a story

     Life can really be trying sometimes so I'm REALLY glad I have an outlet in crafting. :-)  This card is made using the latest freebie offered with the current challenge at A Day For Daisies.  That Tammy can really come up with some wonderful digis!
     My card is colored with Copics and I've used an old Mojo Monday sketch for the design.  Sweet little Prima Jack and Jill papers go right along with the Fairy Tale vibe of the card.
     A huge thank you to all of you who left encouraging words about Mexico Phil.  That boost heavily influenced me to do the second card with he and Horhay and it won at Make It Colorful! (The first Phil made Top Three, so he was a rather popular guy there for a couple of weeks {grin}) That was such a thrill cause it's a coloring contest and you guys know I'm lovin' my Copics!  I do believe I'm addicted.  And to think I said I would NEVER buy those expensive markers!  LOL

Papercraft Star Challenge #42

     Earth day and recycling are the order of the day for this weeks challenge at Papercraft Star.  I was a little stumped about making an earth day card but I went searching through my digi collection and found this apple tree from Just Inklined.  I decided to finally give the Prismas on kraft technique a try and I liked it.  Now this was just a simple color job, nothing fancy and really not a good tell of what the technique is capable of, but it's a start.  I printed out a sentiment that pretty much sums up what I think about the earth. :-)  I know I use the word create sometimes to describe projects I've done, but there in only ONE creator.  We simply use what He's created.

     Now as for the recycled part of my project I dug out a bunch of chipboard (i.e. cereal bar boxes) and punched four Nestie die cuts out and glued them together to make a frame.  I cut another layer out of green Bazzill paper, cut the middle part out and placed the image underneath.  The apple is part of a Meljen's Designs digital stamp.  It's also colored with Prismas on kraft and layered on top of two layers of chipboard.  I popped the leaf up with a pop dot for some dimension.  The little banners were cut out of the kraft paper and layered on one layer of chipboard.  I then added some red grosgrain ribbon to them for an accent.

     Some plaid ribbon and machine stitching finish off the card.  And that kraft paper. . . it's 100% recycled Lunchbag Kraft cardstock from the Kraft Outlet!

The Kraft Journal Challenge #15

     I've been wanting to create one of these baskets for a long time and when the Easter theme came up this week for The Kraft Journal, I couldn't imagine not trying to make it out of some of Babette's fabulous Kraft Outlet cardstock.

     The basket was made using the template and instructions of the incredibly talented Becca Feeken.  You can click on her name to go to the template page.  I'll also give you another link here for the video tutorial she did on how to weave the ribbon panels.  She made her panels solid, but I liked the look of the kraft poking through so I only did one set of the weaving.  The ribbon is weaved in and out of a Scalloped Frame die cut from Spellbinders.  The basket base is super simple to make and the weaving isn't really that hard either.  I used Brown Kraft Cover Weight and Buff Ivory Coverweight cardstocks.  I stamped and embossed a little damask on each flap of the basket and did some faux stitching for added accent.  The handle was edge punched, layered, and attached to the base with brads.

     I stamped the sentiment onto a White Round Metal Edge tag and used another one to attach the flower to.  For the flower I used a Spellbinders Dahlia die and layered Buff Ivory and Lunchbag Kraft cardstock.  A brad holds it all together.

     The basket needed some treats for it so I created some little treat holders out of two of the Small Kraft Pillow Boxes.  I decorated them with a punched piece of Buff Ivory and some little Vintage Easter images I made into little tags and tied with green Bakers Twine.  I added a little faux stitching on these too.

     Did you see the pretty porcelain egg with my name on it?  my mom gave me and my daughter one of these many moons ago.

Another Mexico Phil!

     You guys got such a kick out of Mexico Phil so here he is again.  I'd had that other image for quite a while and right after I posted him Just Inklined came out with another one.  This time he has his trusty mount Horhay with him.  I couldn't resist the wisecrack sentiment with that look on Horhay's face.  LOL
     This card was inspired by the Make It Colorful challenge.  The challenge was "coloring skies".  YIKES!  I was clueless, but thankfully one of my coloring heroes, Annika the Great, offered up a fabulous step-by-step tutorial.  I had to fudge a little because I didn't have the exact colors she used, but I was rather amazed at how it turned out.  Not perfect, but not to bad for a first try I think.  Here's a close up before I added the sentiment.

     I just knew I had to create a scene for Phil and Horhay so I went surfing and found a kids coloring page of a canyon scene.  It's just amazing what you can find out there!  Anyway, it didn't print out very well so I got out one of the first major crafty tool purchases I ever made, a light box, wiped off the 2 inches of dust (just kidding--it was only 1 inch--hee hee) and put it to work.  I lightly traced the parts of the image I wanted to use in pencil.  I colored it with Copics and then went back in with a Sakura Micron sepia pen and went over the lines of the drawing.  I probably should have done the sky first in case I messed it up, but I didn't and thankfully it turned out okay.

     Next came Phil and Horhay, also colored with Copics, and then I created the card base and design using some Cosmo Cricket Wanted papers.  Phil looks like a good guy to me (I could be predjudiced since my hubby's name is Phillip) so I don't think his face was plastered on any Wanted posters.  Now Horhay--hmmm....that might be a different story. {grin}

     I hope you like this Phil too.  I was tired as all get out last night, but could NOT put the markers down I was having so much fun coloring.

The Kraft Journal Challenge #14

     It's "Bunnies, Basket, or Babies" this week at The Kraft Journal.  For my card I've used a couple of images from Meljen's Designs that I put together in Photoshop.  This is Garden Bun Bun Fairy.  Isn't she cute!  I've colored her with Copics and matted her on some fun spring papers.  My card base is made from Brown Kraft Cover Weight cardstock and I used the same paper for the little punched border in the center of the card.  I left the back of the image and mat piece open so the Large Kraft Shipping tag could slide in and stapled a piece of natural colored Twill Tape to the tag.

A peach and green ballerina

     The challenge this week at Lili of the Valley was to create something with a LOTV stamp using peach and green.  So here's another stamp that was sitting in my drawer never inked.  I'm almost as bad at hoarding my stamps as I am with hoarding paper.  LOL
     My ballerina is colored with Copics and surrounded by lots of pearls and pretty peach ribbon, some of which I tied on the thin green satin ribbon and some of which I made little ribbon flowers with.  The DP behind the image has a soft peachy floral papttern on it.  I also added a small amount of green chalking around the image and some peach glitter glue around the die cut.

A little Easter lamb

     Second post of the day.  Scroll down if you missed my busy bee card.

     This card uses the pretty freebie that Tammy from A Day For Daisies gave us last week to use for the challenge.  The image makes me think of my mother because she has spoken often of the baby lambs they had here on the old homestead when she was a kid.  I guess sheep were not an animal that my grandfather thought worth keeping around because we never had sheep when I was a kid.

     I tried my best in Photoshop, but the colors of this card would not come out like the real thing.  The card is actually more of an aqua and the yellow chalking and pink in the plaid are not that bright.

     I layered two different Nestabilities label die cuts and cut a slit in the bottom one to run the ribbon through.  The stitching was done by hand with embroidery thread and the image was colored with Copic markers.

Lots of busy bees

     Yippee a just for fun card!  I found this cute bee/ladybug paper at Joann's and it matches this Meljen's digi stamp perfectly.  Lots of layers on this card and I guess I might as well leave the sewing machine out cause I'm sewing on everything I make.  LOL  The image is colored with Copics.  I added some yellow chalking to help those white daisies pop out and the little bees have Glossy Accents on their wings.

A Two For One Tutorial for The Kraft Journal

      It's my turn this week to do the tutorial for The Kraft Journal.  First I'm going to show you how to make a cute little box and then I'll show you what goes inside and how it ties into our theme this week of "Spring Cleaning".      I've used Kraft Outlet Brown Kraft and Buff Ivory Cover Weight cardstock and cut a piece of each  to 8" x 8".  I used the Brown Kraft for my box bottom and it needs to be scored on all four sides at 1 1/2".

     Burnish your score lines and cut a small notch out of each of the corner "flaps".  NOTE:  Make sure you don't cut the notch out of the center pieces.  Add adhesive to the corner pieces and fold up your box bottom with the flaps to the inside.

     Your box bottom is done.

     The next step is the only tricky part to this box.  The lid has to be scored a tiny bit larger than the bottom so it will sit on the box right.  If you'll take a close look at the next photo, the Martha Stewart Score board has a line with a little arrow just a smidge in from the left side of the board.  Put the edge of your paper on that arrow line everytime you score at 1 1/2" and it will give you just the little extra you need.

     After you get all your scoring done, burnish you score lines and trim the notches the same way you did for the bottom of the box.  If you want to use a decorative punch on your box top, now's the time to punch.  You'll need to trim the flaps a little depending on which punch you use.   Add your adhesive and fold up your lid.

    Here's what the finished box looks like with some pretty purple seam binding ribbon wrapped around it and a little French perfume tag to jot a note on.

It's sachets!

     What better way to freshen up those spring cleaned dresser drawers than with some nice smell good.  I've used the Kraft Outlet Cotton Draw String bags which I stamped and colored with Copic markers.  I also added some ribbon and lace around the top and used some ink to dye the draw strings purple.

      For the smell good I bought some sachet packets at Wal-mart.  The package says to leave the contents in the pouch and not let it touch fabric.  I wanted to protect the bag so I bought a pack of plastic jewelry bags and used a 1/8" hole punch to punch numerous holes in the bag.  The holes are too small for the crystals to get through but they allow the smell out and the 3" x 4' size works perfectly for the bags.

      So there you have it!  A really easy and cheap gift or prezzie to yourself.

Papercraft Star Challenge #40

     Let me introduce youto my canine daughter, Gwennie.  Trust me that's exactly how she sees herself. {grin}  Our challenge this week at Papercraft Star is a sketch challenge.  Well I looked at that sketch from every angle and I could not come up with an idea for a card with it so I decided to give a real layout a shot.  It's been a long loonnngg time since I've actually scrapped a page and I really had fun once I got started with it.  I do so love to scrap.

     I started off with a plain sheet of kraft cardstock.  I used a splotch stamp and some sepia ink to add some interest.  I picked up the plaid paper at Joann's just for this layout.  Hubby sweetly let me have a few minutes to shop since I hadn't been to Mobile in forevah.  I was specifically looking for papers at J's and woohoo they happened to be on sale.  It's a very small store so not much selection, but we don't have one at home so it was different stock.

     Anywoo, I cut the circles out with my handy dandy plate and bowl.  What scrapper doesn't have those in their stockpile.  LOL  Besides those staples I dug out a bunch of supplies and tools that don't often see the light of day.  Deco scissors, texture plates.  It was just fun to play!

     I found those cute little paw prints online, printed them out, cut them out, covered them with matte Glossy Accents, and added them to the page.  The heart is chipboard covered with microbeads, and look closely at that long cream strip on the left.  There are teeny tiny embossed doggie paws on there too.

     Hope you like the layout of my baby girl.  At twelve she's not really a baby anymore (84 in doggie years!) and suffers with arthritis, but she's my pal.

Mexico Phil

     No lie.  That's what this digi is called.  I don't think I've ever met a Mexican Phil, but I guess it's possible.
     Anyway, this card is your chuckle of the day.  Not because of Phil, but because of my coloring.  I really, REALLY love my Copics, but I have no artistic training so I'm a learn as I go kinda gal and I've got a LOT to learn and a long way to go.  Well, I got to play along in one of the challenges a while back at Make It Colorful and really enjoyed it.  However, I've been too chicken to play with any of the other challenges--WAY out of my league skill wise.  My buddy Dana has been tearin' up the Top Three spots over there and if you've visited her blog you know why.
     This weeks challenge was to use bright colors.  That seemed pretty easy, but I decided to do a little experimenting thanks to Annika.  She did this fantastic background for her image on her DT example for the challenge and I decided to try my hand at creating one for Phil.  The saguaro and the two prickly pear cactuses were found on the internet.  They are actually kids coloring page images.  I resized them and arranged them on the background and drew the rest of it in by hand.  Don't chuckle too hard now.  It was my first attempt after all. {grin}  It was fun just to play and enjoy coloring.
     Guess I'll enter it into the challenge at MIC and give them a chuckle of the day too.
