Vintage roses

Grrr!  Is anyone else having trouble with blogger?  This is the third prescheduled post I've had that didn't post when it was supposed to.  Oh well, here it is.  :-)
The Catered Crop is one of my favorite challenges to play.  The last challenge was brads and I was lucky enough to have my "Young Jack Sparrow" card chosen as one of the top picks.  Those picks get to be Guest Chefs and post a inspiration card for the midpoint of the next challenge.  This marks my third Guest Chef spot (YAY!!!) and since Linda's challenges are always fun how could I not want to play along.  :-)  Thanks Linda!!!!!  The new challenge is kraft.  Hmmmm???  Don't see much of that around here do ya?  LOL
I'm still on the fence about whether I like this card or not.  I'm afraid I got a little carried away with the flowers and they've overpowered the image.  I've used a beautiful vintage image from A Day For Daisies and colored it with Prismas.  My kraft coloring hero and friend, Dorcas, who by the way is a member of the Catered Crop DT, recently did another wonderful coloring tutorial on skin and I'm afraid I have failed the lesson miserably.  Sorry teach.  :-(  I do believe this lady might be a member of the Cullen family.  LOL  Bit on the pale side isn't she.  :-)  I think I need a few more skin tone pencils in my collection.
I also tried casing an idea from my wonderful friend Geri.  You can take a look at her card here.  I was trying to match her die cut and matching tabs but as you can see I got things a bit backwards.  I needed the negative image for the side panels instead of matching ones.  I didn't want to waste the paper so I left it alone.  Lesson learned for next time.  :-)
So break out your kraft paper and pop over to the Catered Crop to get in on Linda's fun challenge.
Thank you to everyone who prayed for hubby and I and sent well wishes.  We are both much better.  We even canceled his orthopedic appointment because his foot got so much better.  Keep those prayers coming that he will recover 100%.  The man spends 99% of his day on his feet and he is not one to sit still.
I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

Craft Your Days Away--metal (brads)
Card Makin Mamas--make it girly

Your card is gorgeous, Tracy! I love the vintage look and unique layout! Fantastic coloring of the beautiful image! The flowers are wonderful - I don't think they overpower the image at all! Glad you and DH are both better!

~Dear H~
I can't say enough about the beautiful layout. I don't think for a minute these flowers overtake the image. The fact that you left them brown only adds so much MORE glamour to her. This is stunning work Tracy. :) I LOOOOVE the black leafs too. So perty.
Hugs and here's to further healing in your family!

Thank you SO much for joining us at Craft Us Crazy for our challenge.

You're kidding right? First the flower arrangement is gorgeous and does definitely not take the attention off the image, it's a superb addition to your card, second the lady shouldn't have too much colour, it's the twenties, right?? So to sum this all up: it's a roaring tribute to the twenties Tracy!! Hugs, Ira

Oh, my!!! The dark roses/leaves combo is so striking and GORGEOUS!! Oooo, I love it ALL! Sounds like a whole lotta people have had issues with Blogger and scheduled posts this week. Mine were all fine, but lots of TCM designers were frustrated! Other than that...hope you're having a great weekend!!! The card is just beautiful!

Oh my, Tracy! I think your cards is truly lovely. I don't think the flowers overpower the image at all. My eye is drawn to the image and the darker colors in the flower just pull it all together. Fabulous job. I just happened on your blog from another blog ... can't remember where now, but I will BE BACK! :) Love your work, Kelly

Beautiful coloring on kraft, looks good to me. Yes, I admire Dorcas work but haven't tried the kraft. I used to always use prismas and now they are neglected!
Your roses are stunning! Those leaves and flourish dies are on my wish list.

Well, I would hate for Dorcas to see my coloring....because if you think this project failed, she would gasp out loud at my attempts. Cullen family, or not, I think your lovely lady is beautifully done. :) And your design is detailed and amazing, as always. That delicate flourish at the top with the flowers is just gorgeous.

Oh my word, Girl! Your card is gorgeous! I actually LOVE the way you used the die cuts side by side. It looks like a continuous line up....like it goes on & on & on. Love it!
Even though you do have a lot of flowers on the top I really don't think they overpower the beautiful image. And I think you've colored her beautifully.........no Mrs. Cullen at all. LOL
Beautiful inspiration!
Happy Huggies ~

This card is stunning! You said that you failed the skin coloring tutorial; however, since this is a vintage image, you chose your colors wisely. The flowers above do not overpower the image but, rather, frame it and draw the eye downward.

I always follow my instincts--they never lead me down the wrong path. It looks like you followed yours while making this card and it really paid off!

Thanks for sharing,
Merilee
