Pop over to Mo's store and take a look around. There's such a great variety of images for ANY occasion. You don't have to use as many supplies on your card as I did :-), but we'd love to have you join in the fun this week. And speaking of joining in, we are welcoming a brand new team member this week. The sweet Barb Hardeman is coming aboard to add some more inspiration for you.
Here's a run down of how I created this card. The image was colored with Copics and Prismas and matted twice. Little Captain is mounted on top of a row of waves that I created by using the negative of a scalloped edge die. I added a little white acrylic paint dabber to the peaks. The brown paper underneath is actually a treasure map print but most of it got covered up. :-( On the left side I ran some kraft through a Cuttlebug folder for the wood grain and inked it lightly.
I'm really ashamed at how much stash I have that I've forgotten about. I remembered I had some TH grunge board hinges, but was totally clueless that there was a fantastic skull and cross bones in the same package. Isn't it an awesome embellie! I painted it with white paint dabber first and then lightly inked it with Versamark and added white opaque embossing powder. I should have tapped off a bit more of the powder before embossing for a little grainier texture, but it looks cool anyway. I inked it with Pumice Stone to fill in the little cracks and crevices. The hinge pieces were inked with Versamark and covered with Vintage Photo Distress embossing powder. After embossing I rubbed off the crystals and added Vintage Photo Distress ink for a wonderful rusted look. Thank you Tim Holtz for all your amazing ideas. :-) I added some tiny brads and attached the hinges over the wood grain piece that I'd added eyelets and some jute cord to. If you've got a pirate you have to have some rope on there somewhere. LOL
Last but not least I created the spyglass view. The treasure map paper comes from a DCWV 12 x 12 pad that had a couple of other pirate theme sheets. One had that great pirate ship on it so I ran it through my scanner, reduced it to fit, and printed it out. I cut two chipboard circles with a Nestie and mounted the ship onto a solid one. Very carefully I added ink with a Versamark pen just on the ship image and added UTEE. I did this a couple of times. For the other chipboard circle I cut the inner part out and embossed the rim with gold embossing powder. I glued it on top of the image and added a couple more layers of UTEE to fill in the inner circle. So now you know what Little Captain was seeing in his spyglass. :-)
I hardly ever finish the inside of a card, but I decided to do it for this one. Nothing fancy, just a sentiment to finish the theme.
So there you have another kitchen sink project and hopefully a little inspiration for Mo's challenge this week. Hope to see you in the entries. :-)
