Cure for the common cold

I think this poor fellow is looking a bit like several of my bloggie friends have been feeling lately.  This is "Beary Sick" from Mo's Digital Pencil and I've used him for our "Anything but a square" challenge this week at DP2.
My original plan was to make everything about him cozy.  He's dressed in his comfy night shirt and has his fuzzy slippers on.  I wanted to carry on the theme, so he got a sentiment about chicken soup and some tea on the inside of the card.  Perfect sickie food!
To further carry over the theme I wanted him to have a quilt.  Now I have done a wee bit of quilting myself (I'm too impatient to see the end result so my seam matching stinks LOL) but this paper quilting was much easier.  I so wish I could have gotten it to photograph better, but it's really more of a tactile thing anyway.  After stitching my DP at intervals I turned the panel over and used my large embossing tool to soften the centers of each square, then I added a pop dot in there.  I also added 1/8" Score Tape to the seams.  Once attached to the card base it makes those little squares puff up like they're stuffed.  It feels so cool when you run your fingers over it.
I added a 3/8" fold to the top of the card base so that there would be room enough on the inside for the tea bag and it's pocket.  There's also a little tag tucked in behind that says "Hope you feel better soon".

I'm not really sure why I went with the octagon shape.  Thy're all cut by hand.  Here's a side view that you might be able to see the little pillows with.  I used the terry cloth and Colorless Blender technique for his fur to make him a bit fuzzy.

We'd love to have you come join in the challenge this week.  Just grab one of your Mo images and create something that's NOT square.
I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

Little Red Wagon--totally teddies
Bearly Mine--lace, ribbon, twine
Craft Room Challenge--something for a man
Crafty Sentiments--fancy fold or not swuare
Deep Ocean--the letter "b" (bear, buttons, bow, bunny slippers, bag of tea)

Thanks for stopping by!  I've got blogaversary candy!  Thanks to all of you who are already playing along.  ☺

  11. This Mo image is so fun with the look on his fuzzy little face and those bunny slippers. I really like the terry cloth effect. The background is amazing...I don't even know how you would think of that. Part quilting, part paper sculpting and part engineering. It is awesome, you brilliant thing. Love the octagon shape...it plays well with the stitching. And then you add the tea bag... so cool. Wow!!

  14. Mo created the perfect sick bear...even his eyes have that "I feel rotten" look. Of course, your coloring of "Sickly Bear" made it even more realistic. And your fantastic quilting technique is so original. Thanks for sharing that. Inside and out, this card will definitely make someone feel better.

  50. Your card is absolutly fantastic, Tracy! And the design and esp. the sentiments are really fitting the "sickie theme". Totally reminds me of myself cooking chicken soup and making a felt hundrets pots of tea for my kids... Thankfully they are healthy again. Love the way you colored the fur of the poor guy.
