Halloween tag tree

Now I don't do Halloween, but several Halloween stamp sets were in my goodie box from Art Impressions.  I decided to used some of the smaller images to make tags.  I found this cool birch tree that lights up at Michaels to hang them on.
Here's a close up of each tag.

Lots of crazy critters huh.  LOL
     Have a blessed day!

Feel the Sun

(Click on the button in my sidebar to learn more about my B-day candy giveaway)

Okay people.  You almost gave me a serious case of big head yesterday.  LOL  I'm just kidding, but it's no joke how much your encouraging words meant to me.  I've said it before and I'll say it again--you guys are the best!

Did you ever have one of those days when every project you made had one glaring boo boo that you didn't see until the project was all put together?  Yesterday was definitely that day for me.  First was the red shoes on Dorothy debacle and then this tag.
Our theme for the new ADFD challenge is texture and Tammy has re-released some of her beachy images.  You can find them all in the ADFD store.
Do you see what I did?  Believe me, it's far worse than screw heads that don't line up.  LOL  I had "beachy" stuck in my head so went the direction of sand.  Why I have her coming out of the sand instead of pretty blue water is beyond me.  LOL  I will say this was a wonderful learning experience to egg me on  to starting an art journal.  I want to do this again--the correct way on a journal page.
I played with Distress inks and modeling paste mixed with paint for the sand.  Here's a close up of the awesome texture I got from some Multi-medium Matte gel.
I've used this technique before and absolutely love the look it gives.  I used a large stencil brush and pounced the medium all over the tag.  Then I pulled out the heat gun and boiled it--literally.  The heat gun makes the medium bubble up leaving this awesome texture.  To make it stand out a bit more I hit the high points with some Versamark and then brushed on some Perfect Pearls.  It made all those ridges and bumps shimmery and more easy to see.
I'll probably do the image is a different coloring medium next time.  I'm just not proficient enough with my pencils.  I went back to Dorcas's wonderful skin coloring tutorial again for this one.  I need a couple more skin tone pencils to really do this right.
There are so many great ways to add texture to your projects.  Break out some of your goodies and come play along with our challenge at ADFD.
(Note:  Tammy is changing her store over to a different platform.  The current store will close late tonight and she will reopen Monday with a 15% off store sale.  WOOHOO!  Great time to snatch some stamps)
     Happy Friday!

Can-can!

Although I managed to make a huge dent in returning emails and comments yesterday, I'm still a bit behind so some of you will hear from me today.  Better late than never huh.  LOL  I'm still coughing a bit, but feeling better.  Thank you for all your well wishes.  :-)
Our challenge this week at Papercraft Star is to do something "French".  I had gone back and forth for I don't know how long before I broke down and purchased Elizabeth J. from Make It Crafty.  She's a bit out of my usual style, but those ruffles!  I wanted to color those ruffles so badly.  LOL  The camera didn't pick up the shading as well as I would have liked and I think I needed to go in with another darker red layer before calling it quits, but here she is in all her ruffled glory.  She's far from perfect, but she was fun to experiment with.
I used a Ranger manila tag for my base.  I put some Tea Dye distress ink on  my craft sheet and drug the tag through it.  I used some TH stamps with Fired Brick and Vintage Photo inks to create a background on the tag and brushed gold Perfect Pearls over the wet inks for a bit of sparkle.
The next layer is a vintage postcard digital image created by my friend, Dawn at LilyPinkScraps.  She had offered this as a freebie over at The Outlawz and I thought it was perfect for my tag.  I changed the color a bit and printed it out on some Light Kraft Text Weight paper from Kraft Outlet.  The paper is really cool and after I crumbled it up it kind of felt like soft leather. I inked it with Old Paper and Vintage photo, then tore the upper right corner and threaded some waxed linen thread across the tear.  I added a brad and fan charm also.
The little heart is a chipboard piece from Michaels that I covered in Perfect Medium and more of the gold Perfect Pearls.  I dyed some white seam binding with Fired Brick and Aged Mahogany Distress inks and colored a snippet of lace with the Vintage Photo.
Last but not least is Miss Elizabeth in all her Copic colored glory.  Like I said, not perfect, but oh so fun to color.  :-)
Our sweet Jinny is showcasing images from our sponsor, The House Across the Bay, this week so make sure you check out her card along with the rest of the DT creations over at the PCS blog and come play along with our "French " challenge.  Oui!
I'd like to enter my tag into the following challenges:

Anything Goes--time or steampunk
Digital Tuesday--distressed
Craft Your Days Away--metal
Sweet Stampin--girly but no pink

     Happy Wednesday!

Pretty Lady

My table was a disaster again after this tag.  LOL  Just about everything but the kitchen sink came out and went on it.  Isn't she gorgeous!  This is "Befuddled" from the new A Day For Daisies release this week. I wanted a very soft look for her.  She is a vintage style gal after all, so I colored her with Distress inks.
The tag started with  a good old TH # 8 manila which I inked.  The mat is from K & Company and I distressed the edges with my scissors.  Next I used a Versamark pen to add some ink in the corners so I could add gold embossing powder.  Once embossed, I added some Glossy Accents and sprinkled on gold microbeads.
Next I added a half oval of some more of the K & Co. paper.  I used more Glossy Accents to draw a random pattern around the edge and sprinkled on some copper glitter.
We start a new challenge this week at the ADFD blog and we want you to use "found" paper.  That means ticket stubs, book pages, gum wrappers, whatever you can find to repurpose and use on your project.  I used a piece of a place mat.  LOL  Yep, that's what I said.  :-)  See!
Some of our restaurants have these cool little paper place mats that advertise local businesses. Plus it has some other cool things printed on it like horoscopes.  I cut a section of those out, crumpled and inked it, and matted it on top of the oval..
Pretty lady comes next.  One of my close friends is half Korean and her mother always refers to my daughter as "Pretty Lady".  Now this looks nothing like my daughter other than the pale complexion.  :-)  I "tore" her out and added a little ink and Rub 'n Buff to the edges.  That fun little "Sassy" is part of a paper strip that has that printed over and over.  It was in some of the Making Memories Vintage Findings collection that was out about two years ago.  I inked it and added three little pearls on the corner below a fun piece of funky fiber I had in my stash.
The bird and little piece at the top with the metal rose (also from that same MM collection) are some chipboard pieces I found in the Michaels $1 bins.  The top one is embossed with gold and the bird had Glossy Accents added to his swirls, was inked and then edged with Rub 'n Buff.  I think that covers everything.  LOL
I was really inspired to get into this tag by a new challenge that was just started by Linda Coughlin, The Funkie Junkie.  It's called Frilly and Funkie and their very first challenge is to make something in your favorite vintage style.  Now some of you newbies might think this is a bit out of my usual realm, but to be honest it's what I started out with when I started crafting online.  All those frilly frou frous and fun products were staples in my mini albums.  I miss playing with all that stuff so this was a perfect opportunity to drag it all out.
So pretty lady is going to play and I hope you'll join us at ADFD for our challenge this week.  Tammy will have another great freebie for you to play with if you don't have any ADFD images.
I'd like to enter this tag into the following challenges:

The Outlawz POM--anything goes

Some bunny loves you

Happy Tuesday!  I hope this little guy makes you smile as much as he made me.  Is he not adorable!  Mr. Bunny is a freebie Tammy is offering over in the A Day For Daisies shop.  When I saw him I knew I had to use him and I wanted to color him with Distress inks.  So here he is on a Valentine tag.  I actually made five of these for some special friends.  I rarely make duplicates of anything, but it was so fun coloring him and putting the tags together that I had no problem making more than one.
The tag is a Ranger manilla tag like King Tim uses for the 12 Days of Christmas series.  I stamped the "Love" image in Snow Cap Paint Dabber and heat set it.  Then I inked it with Victorian Velvet and Spun Sugar DI and spritzed that with some water with Pearl Perfect Pearls mixed in.  Next I lightly inked the edges with Vintage Photo and them used my Versamark pad to edge the tag.  Tattered Rose Distress embossing powder was then added to the Versamark.  After heat setting I reinked the edges with Walnut Stain.  The foliage stamp is from Tim Holtz.  I stamped it in Vintage Photo.  Embellies include a lace bow, some seam binding colored with Glimmer Mist, a couple of buttons and twine, and my inked sentiment.
The tags were so much fun to make.  I love getting out all the inks and powders.  :-)  Here's a close up of Mr. Bunny.  Don't you just want to pinch his cheeks!  LOL
I'd like to enter this tag into the following challenges:

Wanna see a movie?

Have you guys noticed I've been into tags lately?  What's up with that!  LOL  You've got me.  I just know I've been having fun.  "Anything Goes" is our theme this week at The Kraft Journal.  You might notice a couple of changes there.  We have said good bye to a couple of our beloved members, Audrey Petit and Kim Duran and are saying hello to our new members, Debbie Carriere and Debbie Marcinkiewicz.  I just know you're going to love what they have to bring to the table so make sure you check out todays post at TKJ.  PLUS!  We have a very special guest designer this month (starting next week), my bloggie buddy Dorcas of Dorcas Designs.  This girl is the queen of using Prisma's on kraft paper.  In fact, I should probably have picked another medium to use until next month so I don't look so bad.  LOL
So.... I decided to create a fun nostalgic tag using a Buff French "Carte Postale" Postcard Shipping Tag as my base.  I used the Tim Holtz rusted enamel technique using Old Paper and Vintage Photo Distress inks on the postcard and then added some Vintage Dictionary page pieces.  The marquee was created with a die cut piece of chipboard that was inked, embossed, and glitzed with rhinestones.  The marquee frames a 7 Gypsies Mini Receipts Ephemera Label and has a piece of Tim Holtz film strip ribbon stapled to it.  The stars were cut from chipboard and Kraft Glassine.  The glassine was inked with gold alcohol ink.  The watch image is a 7 Gypsies rub on from Steampunk Time Rubbings.  There's a bottle cap sticker from the Lost and Found Salvage Stickers and some black Twill Tape.  I just love this Charlie Chaplin image from Mo's Digital Pencil.  It's colored with Prismas and was printed on Lunch Bag Kraft cardstock multiple times, layered, inked, and covered with a coat of Rock Candy Crackle paint.  I should have taken a picture of my table after this was made.  LOL  Everything but the kitchen sink was piled up on it.
Easy peasy anything goes challenge so pull out that kraft paper or Kraft Outlet products and join in the fun to start the new year off.
I couldn't find too many challenges that my little tag would fit into, but here are a couple:

Craft Your Passion--anything goes + distressing
Make It Monday--anything goes
The Outlawz POM--anything goes
     Have an amazing week!

Tag Tuesday

No paper tags. That's the challenge this week at Tag Tuesday. Well, the only paper on here is the tiny little tag. :) When I read no paper, I immediately thought of sticky back canvas so that's what the background image is printed out on. It's a beautiful antique rose image that I got from Magic Moonlight Studio. The base of the tag is a piece of 4 x 6 chipboard which I painted with Tattered Rose Distress crackle paint and inked with Vintage Photo Distress ink. The butterfly is one of my dryer sheet butterflies that's embossed and colored with Glimmer mist.
Thanks for stopping by for a visit. I'm looking forward to checking out all the other Tag Tuesday players. :)
Don't forget Papercraft Star's brand new challenge starts today. It's a clean and simple card sketch. Everyone is invited to come play! See ya there.

Tag Tuesday Crowns

The challenge this week at Kard Krazy's Tag Tuesday was to create a tag using crowns. Now you may look at this tag and think "well that's pretty plain". Trust me. It was NOT plain to make. LOL I haven't worked this hard on a project in a while.
The image is a snippet of one I downloaded at Karens Whimsey. I printed it out on watercolor paper. I then used Prismacolor colored pencils to color the image. Odorless mineral spirits and a blending stump were used to blend the pencil color.
The next part took quite a bit of time and could have been done better I'm sure. I used a ruler and pencil to draw a faux stained glass pattern onto the image. Using an Exacto knife and the ruler I cut the image apart. I then began to slowly reconstruct the image with grout line spacing on a piece of white cardstock. Lesson learned here. I should have used black cardstock. I'll explain later.
After the image was glued onto the cardstock I used a Versamark stamp pad over the whole image. Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel was sprinkled over this and then heated with a heat gun. It makes a perfect stained glass look.
My next step was to add black paint into the grout lines. This is why I should have used the black cardstock. The UTEE got into the grout lines and wouldn't let the paint soak in so I had to use a Sharpie to try and fill in some of the gaps. That's why my grout is splotchy.
Even though that was a big mistake, the distressed look really grew on me. I got halfway through completely redoing the whole project and decided I really liked the first one.
I glued the image onto a piece of black cardstock and added a crown image from The Graphics Fairy colored with the pencils, blended with the OMS, and covered in Ranger Glossy Accents. I was going to add some words to the tag but everything seemed to take away from the image and I thought it best to just let the subject matter speak for itself. :) Thanks for visiting and have a blessed day!

Kard Krazy's Tag Tuesday--Mannequins

Louise invited a guest hostess to set the challenge for this week's Tag Tuesday. Her name is Sarah and you can find her blog, Vintage Figments here. her challenge was to make a tag using a mannequin template. A couple of days ago I received a post on my Google Reader from Magic Moonlight Studio Free Images. This beautiful image was one of several they were offering for use and I grabbed it up quick. Isn't it gorgeous!
I copied the photo and the template onto a word doc and played with the sizes until I thought the image would cover the template. I printed them out side by side, cut them apart, and then lined up my image with the template by holding it up to a light. This is really old school I know, but hey--it works. :) I do have a light box, but was too lazy to go dig it out.
I cut around the template and then embellished the image with some Kaisercraft pearls, lace, and ribbon fiber. She's so pretty I really didn't want to cover much of her up, but I'm really pleased with how it came out. I wasn't sure which photo I liked best so here's a second one.

Tag Tuesday--Faces

This week's Tag Tuesday challenge at Louise's Kard Krazy blog was to create a tag using faces. I got this image from The Graphics Fairy about a week ago and I thought she was so pretty. Apparently she was an actress around the turn of the century in both silent and then speaking films named Maude Fealey.
For my tag I used a standard office tag which I stamped on with two Martha Stewart Stamps. I used two different embossing powders. The light brown is a regular Zing embossing powder and the pink is Tattered Rose Distress Embossing powder. After rubbing off the distress crystals, I then inked the whole tag with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I printed the image off my computer and then lightly went over it with the Vintage Photo to give it an aged look. The base for the picture is a piece of vellum that I stamped with a script stamp. This was glued onto the tag and then I added some random spots of Glossy Accents and sprinkled it with clear glass microbeads. I was trying to go for a vintage wall paper look and I was pleased with how it came out. I added a piece of pink ribbon at the top, sponged with Tattered Rose Distress Ink, and some white trim at the bottom, which I sponged with the Vintage Photo and added some pearl trim to.

Supplies
Paper: Office Depot shipping tag, clear vellum, Great White Photo Imaging Paper
Stamps: Martha Stewart Clear Camellias, Inkadinkado Script
Inks+: Vintage Photo and Tattered Rose Distress Inks, Stazon Timber Brown; Tattered Rose Distress Embossing powder, Zing Brown Sugar Embossing powder
Miscellaneous: Michaels Celebrate It pink ribbon, Wrights pearl trim, glass microbeads

Hope you like the tag!

Airmail to Paris

The challenge at Tag Tuesday this week was to use postage. The beautiful Eiffel Tower image is from The Graphics Fairy. This is a very simple tag but I love the image.
My love for things French has a lot to do with my ancestry. The French first landed on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1699 and established the very first French settlement of the Louisiana Colony there. After the later establishment of New Orleans, those who braved the immigration from France to the new colony began to spread out in all directions. My ancestors settled for the majority on the Mississippi Coast with a few over near Mobile in Alabama. Can you tell I'm a genealogy/history buff? LOL Flanders, Bordeaux, Avignon, Moulins, and Paris. Those are only a few of the birthplaces of my ancestors. I doubt I'll ever get to visit France but the connection to my family history just draws me to all things French. My husband can claim French ancestry also, but I doubt our respective families would ever have crossed paths. LOL He can lay claim to pretty much every royal family from just about every European country and my kin were regular ole hard working peasants. Didn't know you were going to get a history lesson today did ya?

Supplies
Paper: making Memories Vintage Findings, white card stock
Inks: Black Soot, Vintage Photo, and Mahogany Distress Ink
Miscellaneous: Prima rose, lace trim, fibers
Hope you like the tag. Have a blessed day!

A Few of My Favorite Things

This week at Tag Tuesday Challenge #55 Louise challenged us to use our favorite things or things that are kind of signature items in our creations. I love making tags. They may be small but they open the door for a lot of creative imagination. This one includes some of my handmade flowers and one of my dryer sheet butterflies. You can find a tutorial on how I make these on my YouTube channel.

Here are the favorite/signature things that I included on my tag.

1. a vintage image--I LOVE any and everything vintage
2. wrinkle distress--gotta make it look old and worn
3. pink and brown color combination--these colors just make me think of something that has been loved and well worn from repeated use, like a love letter that you read over and over
4. distress ink--nothing compares to the look of distress ink
5. ribbon--love the soft touch it adds, most of my stuff has a definite feminine element to it
6. French script--this just adds a little romantic flair. You can't go wrong with anything French
7. butterflies--they just always seem to add the perfect little accent
8. my handmade flowers--anyone who's looked at my previous work knows that I LOVE to make my own flowers and I incorporate them a lot in my work. They take a lot of time but I never regret putting them on a project.

Supplies
Images: ballerina from The Graphics Fairy; French script letter from
Paper: manilla folder, copy paper, photo paper, black and white cardstock
Ink: Frayed Burlap, Walnut Stain, Peeled Paint, and Tattered Rose Distress Ink; Tsuninko Galaxy Gold; Vanilla Breeze and Creme de Rouge Glimmer
Tools: Nestabilities Classic Ovals Large (S4-110)

This was a really fun challenge. Thanks Louise!

And thanks to everyone who left me a sweet comment about my place on the Papercraft Star Design Team. If you don't know what I'm talking about check the previous post for today.
Thanks for popping in.

Tag Tuesday Challenge #54--Music

It's been a while since I have made a tag and I've been seeing the Tag Tuesday Challenge on several blogs I've visited. I thought I would put together an entry for the TTC #54-Music this week.
Both the base and the background were cut from manilla file folder. The background was stamped with a musical score and embossed with Ranger Distress Embossing powder in Vintage Photo. I crumpled the paper and added a little Distress Crackle paint in Walnut Stain. Base and background were inked with Vintage Photo. The flowers are some of the little Prima knockoffs I've been making lately. They are colored with Vintage Pink and Caramel Apple Glimmer Mist.
The tag came together fairly quickly (more than fifteen minutes though Jan, LOL) and was fun.

Supplies
Paper: manilla file folder, white cardstock
Image: vintage ephemera from internet
Inks, etc.: Vintage Photo Distress Ink, Walnut Stain Crackle Paint, Vintage Pink, Garden Fairy, and Caramel Apple Glimmer Mist
Stamping: Stampendous Music Score, Versamark, Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder
Tools: Martha Stewart butterfly, EK Success Mini Retro Flower, Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher
Miscellaneous: Decorative paperclip, lace, string pearls, Recollection adhesive pearls, brown satin ribbon

Hope you like it.

City Crafter Challenge #3

Those of you who are familiar with my art, especially on YouTube, are probably thinking "AHA! This is what we're used to from her!" My venture into card making lately feels like a total different realm of art for me. I'm used to the kind of crafting that goes with mini albums and altered art. This tag is actually for a card crafting blog called City Crafter Challenge Blog. From the entries I've seen so far, mine is going to really be an oddball, but I'm going to enter it anyway.

The challenge was to make a tag. This is how I make tags. LOL I love vintage grunge and that's definitely what this tag is. Here's how I made it.

The base is manilla file folder backed with chipboard. I used Versamark to stamp the music score and then used Distress Embossing Powder in Vintage Photo. I removed some of the powder before heat setting it. I then inked the entire tag with Tea Dye Distress Ink. I distressed the edges and inked them with Tea Dye and Black Soot. At the more deeply distress areas I used some more Versamark and the Distress Embossing Powder.

I found the 3D butterfly image online. You can see the layering better in the picture above. I covered each layer with Ranger Matte Accents and separated the layers with pop dots. I made my flowers from French Vanilla Bazzill cardstock. I ran the edges of the petals over my Walnut Stain Distress Ink pad and then sprayed them with water. The centers are Walnut Stain Distress Stickles. The leaves were punched with a Martha Stewart punch and their edges were inked with Walnut Stain. Finishing touches are some scrunched ribbon and some brown fibers.

I know this is probably not what they're looking for, but I had fun creating it in my "old" style.

Have a great day!

Roses and Stained Glass

This is the tag that I made for the April Tag Swap hosted by Arlene at butterflykisseswithlove.blogspot.com. The theme this month was Roses and Flowers and our challenge was to use fabric on our tag. I had this stained glass design in mind from the beginning, but the fabric was really throwing me for a loop. I had bought some burlap not long ago so I pulled that out and clipped off a little piece to use. That little snippet just seemed too little. I had thought about using sticky back canvas for the front of the tag. My sweet friend Elaine in Singapore sent me some Studio Multi Medium so that I could attempt her Rustic Wall Effect. You can check out her tutorial for this on her YouTube channel--sillyfroghoneybee. She used the sticky back canvas, but I decided to just do the technique on the chipboard. I say all that because the sticky back canvas made me think of some off white muslin material I had in storage. Then I remembered seeing a tutorial for these cute little butterflies made out of ribbon and I thought "Hey! I can make them out of that muslin and Glimmer Mist them!" So I did. LOL
If you click on the picture you can make it bigger and see the "stained glass effect" I got with UTEE. I have several other projects in mind using this look. I have a video up on my YouTube channel if you're interested in seeing how I made this tag.

Busy Days

Whew! This past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind. Lots of good stuff going on.
I did a giveaway for my subscribers on YouTube. I don't really know much about putting kits together but that's basically what I did. I bundled up some beautiful K & Co. paper with matching embellishments. That was really fun. I liked being able to give something back to all the people who have encouraged me.
I also won a giveaway! My sweet friend Alee' did a giveaway for her subscribers and her daughter drew my name out of the bowl! So I'll be getting a beautiful kit that she put together.
I had started a mini with some of the new Dear Lizzy Spring papers but I put that on hold to concentrate on making a very special tag for my friend Steph (sweetcraftychick). She's already posted the video on the tag that she made for me but I haven't peeked. I want to be surprised. I'll post pics here soon and may do a video on how I made her tag later.
Meanwhile here's a photo of the tag that I made for Arlene's March Tag Swap on her blog--butterflykisseswithlove.

If you're interested in how I made it you can check out the two parter video I made about it on my YouTube channel. The link is on the top right hand side of this page. I tried my best to edit that video down and even with all the slicing and dicing I still came out with two ten minute segments. LOL
Does anybody know of a good place to download music to use on videos that doesn't have copyright infringements? YouTube's Audioswap selections are pretty limited.
I'm signed up for this month's swap at Arlene's too, so I've got to get busy designing!

Have a great day!
Tracy

Some More Tags

Everythings turning GREEN!

We have a friend upstate who is a beekeeper, and he has been bringing his bees down here for a few years now. Huge bee condos that hum constantly and house the most delicious honey. I decided to go out yesterday and snap a few pictures of the beautiful blossoms on our pear trees and I captured some of his little honeymakers at work. Aren't God's creations amazingly beautiful!

I promised to post a couple more tags so here they are.

The first tag is done using the same Glimmer Mist technique I used on the Water Lily tag. I used a Papertrey Ink stamp for the flowers, some of my vines, and a butterfly sticker. The flowers and leaves were painted with Glimmer Mist and double layered with pop dots.

The second tag is done on watercolor paper. I used distress inks to color it and stamped the lace image with Versamark for a resist emboss. I added one of my handmade flowers, some leaves that I hand cut, and one of my dryer sheet butterflys. The flower was Glimmer Misted. Hope you like them.

A big welcome and thank you to all my new followers! I appreciate all of you.

Have a blessed day,

Tracy

Water Lily Beaded Tag

Hey Everybody!

Here are the closeups of the tag I did in my latest YouTube video. I'll be posting a couple of other tags using this technique shortly.

I've really appreciate the comments that some of you have left and I want to thank those of you who have recommended my channel or blog to others.

Have a great weekend!
