Owl always be there for you

A while back I was asked by the lovely ladies at Can You Digi It to be a guest designer for them.  The challenge this go around is "Bird is the Word".  Here's an inspiration photo for you to draw from.
This is a very simple card but it was lots of fun to make cause I got to play with my Distress Stains.
For the main image panel I used some watercolor paper and swiped Fired Brick, Spiced Marmalade, and Wild Honey across it, blending them to make the sunset.  I don't have a grey stain yet so I just used some ink from my ink pad and a waterbrush to finish off the sky.  I love how it turned out.  :-)
The mountains are an image from AnnieJDesigns which can be found in the CYDI store.  I printed them out to the size I needed for the card and then cut them out.  The little owl can also be found in the store.  His name is Ben and he's from Dana's Digital Cafe.  I colored him with Copics and popped him up on foam for some dimension.  I just printed some stars out on my computer and made the moon from a circle punch.
Pop on over to the blog and play along. Everybody has something birdie in their stash.
     Have a great Tuesday!

B.F.F.

This card goes out to all of you!  Especially those that hung in there with me this week when I couldn't get around to visiting you and leaving you some love.  I've just about caught up.  Have a few new followers and commenters to visit, but I'm about to get back into my comfortable groove. Hope I didn't just jinx myself.  LOL
Last week was definitely a trial by fire for hubby and I.  It started with the computer virus and then a chain reaction of happenings that were nothing but the devil trying to discourage us so we couldn't be a blessing at Bible school.  My car radiator got a huge crack in it and left me stranded at the Post Office waiting for my parents to rescue me.  Hubby had a little fight with his lawn mower that slid into the ditch while he was mowing the grass at church.  The lawn mower made it out alright but he dinged his truck up pretty good with the trailer he hauls it on.  Seems like a couple of other things happened too, but to be honest, we blew it all off and laughed about it because we were determined not to let him get the best of us.  VBS turned out great and we survived all our mishaps.  That's all that counts.  :-)
The paper pad and stamped image I've used were both part of my birthday goodies.  I'm really hung up on blue and yellow lately so this Prima pad is perfect!  Our challenge this week at The Kraft Journal is to "Use any sketch".  I found this one from Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge for last week.
I started the card with a base of Light Kraft  Cover Weight cardstock and used more of it plus Buff Ivory Cover Weight cardstock to mat the panels.
The image is colored with Copics and their boas are jazzed up with some Stickles.  Since I didn't want to cover up their legs with my ribbon, I added some eyelets and threaded the ribbon behind the image panel.  For the flower I added a layer of Glossy Accents in the center and sprinkld on some Doodlebug glitter in a coppery brown color.  Then I used a couple of drops of Copic refill to color some plain glass beads to create the sunflower effect.
There are tons of sketch challenges out there so find one you like(Feline Playful is a great source), break out your kraft paper or Kraft Outlet supplies and come join in our challenge.
I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

How do you Washi?

Have you seen the new recipe challenge over at the Catered Crop yet?  If you haven't, the featured ingredient is Washi Tape.  This is my first time working with Washi.  It's pretty cool and my goodness there is so much of it out there!  The three tapes that I've used came from our sponsor, Chickydoddle.  If you've never played with this stuff you really need to check Winnie's Etsy store out.  She's got lots of patterns to choose from and you can get the tape in different lengths too in case you just need a little something or a lotta something.  :-)
I used a base card of Light Kraft and adhered the brown flowered Washi to a scrap of the same.  Then I used an edge punch.  It's kind of hard to see but the bottom of it is scalloped.  I attached that strip to the base card and then attached the blue tape to the edge of some brown seam binding.  The sticky Washi is a perfect way to keep those pleated ruffles in place.  Next I colored and matted a sweet little Bugaboo digi stamp and added a couple of pink polka dotted Washi tabs to the top corner.
Hope you'll play along in the challenge.  I really like this stuff and I'd love to see different ways to use it.
     Have a great Saturday!

Now that's a hat!

Is she gorgeous or what!  Now I'm not talking about my coloring cause I'm not all that happy with her hair, but the image itself is so beautiful.  Tammy is releasing some amazing vintage ladies in some stylin' hats this week and this is the one I chose.
I still have so much to learn about Copics and this was an experiment for me.  Generally I stick with the same number group for shading but this time I went out of that for the blues.  My base colors were B41 and B52 but I went to the B90's for the shading and I love how it looks, especially on the bow.  The card is pretty CAS although a few of you have let me know that what I think is CAS still isn't.  LOL  I just can't make a card without a little frou frou here and there.  :-)
You can find all the new images in the A Day For Daisies store and you can pop over to the ADFD blog to join in our current challenge, use an ADFD image and add some script.
Thanks for being patient with my lack of visiting this week.  Our closing program for VBS is tonight and I'll be able to slow down a little and get back into my routine.  I'm such a creature of habit. LOL

This is the last week for our Guest Designer call at Mo's Digital Pencil so if you haven't got your card in yet you better hop to it!  :-)  Our new challenge this week is "In the Dog House".  This is "Justin's Ice Cream" and his little friend is trying his best to get a taste of that yummy chocolate chip cone  You can find this image and a lot of other cute doggies at Mo's store.
I've used another one of my new birthday paper pads, this one is Simple Stories, and colored Justin and his pal with Copics and a little bit of Prismas.  I die cut some chipboard stars and covered them with Tarnished Brass Crackle paint.  I've had that jar for a LONG time and I think this is the first time I've ever used it.

A Kraft Journal Tutorial

( I thought I would be able to work in the time to visit and comment on the posts of my bloggie friends and visitors but it's just not working out that way.  I am visiting everyone, but I just can't comment this week.  VBS has me hoppin' and TIRED!  LOL  I promise things will get back to normal next week when I can breathe again.  Don't give up on me!    I'll need all the friendly ADULT contact I can get after Friday.  LOL)

It's time for me to share another tutorial with you for The Kraft Journal.  This time I'm going to show you a use for some of your scraps and a couple of tips.
For my project I'm using a strip of 3" x 11" Brown Kraft Cover Weight cardstock.  The majority of my cards are 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" so after trimming an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper I have lots of these little skinny leftovers.  Besides the Brown Kraft, I'm also going to use a scrap of chipboard, Baker's Twine, some dies, and a few standard card making supplies.
Using the larger of the circle dies I cut out a circle of chipboard and covered it with Copic double sided tape.
After peeling off the tape covering I carefully covered a little over 3/4 of the circle with the Baker's Twine in a wrapped circle.
I didn't cover the entire circle because of the particular flower die I used.  I trimmed mine down to fit but you may not need to do that if you have a larger flower or if you choose to place you circle on top of the flower dies.  I cut two flowers from Tim Holtz's Tattered Florals die and then used the smallest circle Nestie to cut out the centers.  If you place your circle on top you won't need to do this.  I also used an embossing tool to shape the petals.
I folded the skinny strip of Brown Kraft in half and used a white gel pen to do some faux stitching.  I also glued the Baker's Twin circle down to the card and then layered the two flower dies on top.
Take notice of the small notches I cut out on both sides of the card.  These notches will help your Baker's Twine stay where you want it when wrapping around your cards.
I finished the simple little card with a hand drawn stem, some Memory Box leaves, and a stamped sentiment.
Don't let those scrappies go to waste!  :-)
     Be blessed!

Thanks and WOW!

Thanks to everyone who's left a comment and well wishes for getting my computer back up and running.  I have finally managed to get everything loaded back onto it.  For those who might have missed my drama last week, my puter got hit with a nasty virus and all my techie doctor could do was wipe it clean.  :-(  So everything is pretty much back to the way it was and it wasn't too hard except for one thing.  Everything was SUPERSIZED and it took me forever to find where the problem was.  LOL  I knew where to fix it, but it took me a while to realize that I needed to change the screen resolution to a higher number for my large screen.  Duh huh.  LOL  Oh well, I figured it out with only a minimal hair loss.  :-)
Another thanks to the new followers I've gained over the last few months.  I'm so happy that you've found some things here that you like and I really appreciate each and every comment you leave me.  They make my day! ( That goes for my old friends too!)
Just had to tell you about this---

Can you imagine winning this!!!  The incredibly talented Ingvild Bolme who designs for Prima is having an amazing giveaway to celebrate her new blog design.  Wowza that is one amazing pile of goodies isn't it.  Just pop over to her blog and check out the details on how you can get your chance at this sweet treat.
Things will probably be quiet around here this week.  I'll be tied up every night with VBS, my tute for The Kraft Journal won't post until Wednesday, and I won't have a Mabelle card this week.  Make sure you hop over to The Craft's Meow for a real hop to celebrate all their new stamp releases including Mabelle's.
Hope you all have a wonderful brand new week!  Keep me in your thoughts.  I'm teaching two classes cause one of our teachers had to drop out for surgery.  Me and a room full of elementary kids twice in one night!  Scary!!  LOL

Vintage Bee

I don't do CAS well.  I just don't know how to make the image so special that it doesn't need any or much embellishment.  Now some of you might not consider this card CAS, but I do and I am pleasantly surprised and happy to say that I LOVE how it turned out!  When I saw the images that Tammy had planned for release this week, this little bee just stole my heart.  He's called "Vintage Bee" and can be found with several other images including a cute grasshopper in the A Day For Daisies shop.  I had to do him twice cause I messed up the stippling the first time.  I really like how it turned out on this version.
This release coincides with our new challenge at A Day For Daisies blog.  We want to see "script" combined with an ADFD image.  As you can see, I included some text paper underneath Mr. Bee.  Hope you'll come join in our fun!
I'm still in the process of having to reload everything back onto by brand spanking OLD new computer.  LOL  Yep, that nasty old virus ate it up so it got wiped clean.  Fun, fun I tell ya.  :-)  On top of that my cable connection is playing hide and seek.  I'll come visit as best I can.
I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

Goin' on a date

After this week I could definitely stand to have a night out with my hubby like this couple.  :-)  A big thanks to all of you who commiserated with me over my computer woes.  :-)
It's Mo's Digital Pencil Challenge Thursday and this week we have a theme of "Hugs and Kisses".  I can just see these two stealing a few of those after their date.  The image is called "Date" and you can find it right here in Mo's store.
For my card I used some papers from a new 6 x 6 pad I got in one (yes I said one) of my birthday goodie shopping trips.  The largest DP mat has some Picket Fence Crackle paint smeared around the edges as well as Distress Ink like the rest of the panels.  I also added the Crackle paint to the photo corners on the image.  The roses were cut by hand, rolled and inked.
Hope you'll join in our fun this week.  We're still running our Guest Designer call this week and next if you want to get your name in the hat for a possible three month term as a Guest Designer for Mo with us.  There's also a $5.00 voucher up for grabs for each 25 entries.

A little rant...but I think you'll agree

     Hello my sweet friends!
Right now I am typing this post on my old ancient laptop.  You see, this morning I awoke in a perfectly good mood.  It's a hectic week for me.  We start Vacation Bible School at my church next week and I've got decorations and lessons to take care of.  So before I got started on those tasks I thought I would start my morning off visiting my bloggy friends and seeing what's going on in the crafty world.
NOT!!!!!
I find that my computer is already on cause hubby checked the weather this morning.  I go to my AOL mail account.  No can do.  There's a security problem.  Hmmmmm????  Gmail.  Same thing.  The alarm bells start going off so I grab my thumb drives and quickly make sure all my digital images and documents are safely stored.  That done I go into Microsoft Security Essentials to see what's up and everything just went downhill in a hurry from there.
Seems I got a nasty virus from somewhere which put my computer in a perpetual loop of telling me it needed to be cleaned of threats and then restarting the computer before that could be done.  My computer doctor says he'll have to wipe it clean.  He couldn't get it out of the loop either.
You know I just don't understand how anyone can get enjoyment out of destroying something that belongs to someone else.  As far back as I can remember the thought of me touching ANYTHING that belonged to someone else without their permission was a HUGE no no.  My mother probably taught me that although it seems to me that it was just something, a boundary, that I myself set.  I would have, and still would, feel so guilty if I broke something that wasn't mine.  The thought of a human being, well LOTS of human beings, out there who think it's funny to create these destructive viruses just baffles me.
I don't normally write posts like this one, but I know there are a lot of you out there who have probably had the same or a similar experience.  I was told that the Microsoft Security Essentials virus protection was pretty much as good as anything else, but if you have an opinion or suggestion of something else, I'd appreciate if you'd drop me a comment.  I'm no computer genius although I do pretty well operating one as long as I don't have to try to figure out how it works or how to fix it.  :-)
I'm going to try my best to keep up with my visiting and commenting, but this thing really is pretty old and slow.  I should have my other computer back tomorrow although honestly part of me wants to throw it in the trash.  Having to deal with starting from scratch loading programs and files back into it is just depressing and not something I wanted to deal with, especially this week.  The old devil really know where to stick the knife in to press our buttons doesn't he.  :-(
Hope you're having a MUCH better week than me.
     Hugs!

A Princess birthday

It's Tuesday so that means it's time for a Mabelle R.O. card.  If you remember, last week I told you Mabelle was going to be releasing some new digis this week as her new rubberstamps that will be available on Saturday at The Craft's Meow.  Here are the two new digi stamps, Cheery Wishes and Little Princess available in the Whimsy and Stars Studio etsy shop.

As you can see I've used Little Princess with some bright and bold My Mind's Eye papers.  She's colored with Copics and I've added some punched borders threaded with pink Baker's Twine.
I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

Bearly Mine--girly Birthday card
Digital Tuesday--all tied up
Papertake Weekly--all things girly

Hope you have a wonderful Tuesday!

Sticky sweet

Are you going into sugar overload?   LOL  Yes, I know this card looks like something that belongs in a candy shop.  Makes it's point doesn't it. :-)
Tammy has re-released some images this week in the A Day For Daisies store that relate to the fair.  Cotton candy, caramel apples and Merry Go Round rides.  I chose to use the cotton candy image.  I've had a bottle of pink Martha Stewart flocking in my craft drawer forever and this was the perfect chance to use it. Looks pretty realistic huh?  :-)
We'd love to have you join in our challenge at the ADFD blog.  There's still a week left on the "Anything but a card" challenge.

Rock on!

Okay, this is an interactive post.  You all have to leave me a comment telling me what you think he's playing/singing.  LOL  That ought to be interesting!
It's new challenge time at Mo's and our theme is "Dancing/Singing".  This guy obviously has both going on.  I know, I know, another boy card.  I don't know what's up with that , but since I'm on a roll why not stock up the stash before the male mojo leaves me.  :-)
I used papers from 7 Gypsies to create the card background.  The center black panel was embossed with a TH Sizzix embossing folder and then I added Black Diamond Stickles to the raised squares.  Looks pretty cool IRL.  I fussy cut rock star out and popped him up on that crazy black and white paper.  Drives your eyes nuts doesn't it.  LOL
So, I hope you'll check out your Mo image stash or hop over to Mo's store to pick up something that will fit our challenge cause you know what?  It's a special challenge.  Why?  Well for the next three challenges we are going to be on the hunt for some Guest Designers.  We're looking for three people to do a guest designer term of three months (August-October).  Could it be you?  If you're interested check out this weeks post at the Mo's Digital Pencil Challenge Blog for all the details and then pop "GDT" after your name when you enter your card for the challenge.  Pull out you crafty big guns and dazzle us!
I'd like to enter this card in to the following challenges:

Bug hugs

I don't think I've even seen any of these little bugs this year or too many others for that matter.  I think it's even too hot for the bugs!  ;-)
This little sweetie is "Little Ladybug" from Mabelle R.O. at Whimsy and Stars Studio.  I've colored her with Copics and added a little Stickles on her spots, Fairy Dust paint to her flower and some highlights with a white gel pen.
Don't forget that Mabelle has a new rubber release coming up at The Craft's Meow on the 21st and be on the look out next week for some new digis.  All the info will be posted on the Whimsy and Star Studio blog.

V.I.P.

I sure hope this little guy makes you smile as much as he makes me.  I mean just look at all those chubs!  LOL
Our challenge this week at The Kraft Journal is "Rock-a-bye Baby" and I created my card using a base of Brown Kraft Cover Weight cardstock that's matted with Buff Ivory Cover Weight cardstock and designer papers.  I added a corner piece over the image with E-Flute Corrugated Kraft paper painted with Crackle paint.  There are Natural Twill Tape tabs held on with brads that I lightly coated in gesso to tone down their color.  Then I covered them with some Stickles.  The DP panels are wrapped with Green Baker's Twine and  Canvas Fringe Ribbon.
My image is from Mo's Digital Pencil and is called "Spit Happens".  I've used a sentiment from Create with TLC that just semed perfect for the expression on his face.  :-)
Hope you'll join in our challenge.  Just make sure you use kraft paper or a product from Kraft Outlet to qualify.  You could be one of our weekly top picks or our monthly gift voucher winner.  Ya can't win it if you ain't in it!

Copic Marker Europe Guest

What a thrill to be asked by amazingly talented Tracy Payne to be a Guest Designer for Copic Marker Europe!  Thank you so much ladies for the invite and all the wonderful inspiration and techniques you share with us.
I just absolutely fell in love with the multi image set of sailor boys Mo Manning released through Mo's Digital Pencil.  It's such a blessing to be a member of her team and get to work with her images.  I couldn't resist going to one of her stamps again for my guest card.
Working with Copics has been a slow and steady learning process for me.  Everything I know has been learned through coloring tutorials just like the ones posted on Copic Marker Europe.  I always start with the skin and hair and then choose my designer papers, coloring the rest of the image to match.  In this case I wanted some vintage style masculine papers to go along with the little boy.  I even found a charm in my stash with a British ship on it.
Here is the list of Copics I used for this card:

Copics
Skin   E000, E00, E11, E13, R20
Hair   E51, E53, E55, E57
Clothing   B91, B93, B95, B97, B99, W1, W3, W5, R35, R37, R39, N1, N3, N5, N7
Boat   E31, E33, E35, E37, E39, E000, E00, B0000, B000, B00
Shading  E41, E42, E43, C00, CO, C2

As you can see I like to use a lot of markers.  LOL
Once again I would like to thank the ladies at Copic Marker Europe for asking me to be their guest.  It's an honor to have been asked to make a project considering the talent that is regularly shared on their blog.
I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

The happy tree

This was my house yesterday--the happy tree.  Why was it happy?  Because I had a house full of wonderful friends all day long.  If you read my post yesterday you know that I was supposed to have my little 6 year old sweetie for the day, well the whole family plus some ended up staying from about 10:30 to after 9:00.  Now I have to be honest and say my intended visitor was not very happy about having her Mrs. Tracy Day interrupted with extra visitors LOL, but it all worked out wonderfully otherwise, and yes Sharron, when she comes over we DEFINITELY craft together.  :-)  She loves to raid my punches.  LOL
Tammy is doing another re-release for A Day For Daisies this week of some fun tree images while she irons out some wrinkles in her store makeover.  I chose to use the "Happy Tree" image on kraft and color with Prismacolor pencils.  This image is on sale for 50% off this week by the way.  :-)
I'm not overly proficient with my pencils but this time I tried to stick to blending with them instead of using the odorless mineral spirits to blend.  I like the effect I got.  It's kind of hard to see but I outlined the kraft die cut in gold gel pen.  I have a drawer full of funky trims from my scrapbooking endeavors and I found this great blue fancy yarn to use for my tag pull.
It's pretty CAS but I needed something to use in my Bible that wasn't real bulky.  If you'd like to play along with our new challenge we're looking for "Anything but a card" projects.  You can find all Tammy's great images in the ADFD store and you can find the challenge on the ADFD blog.
     Happy Friday!

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Betcha thought I forgot about my candy drawing.  :-)  Nope.  I plugged the numbers into Random.org and the lucky number that came up was #2.  Sorry I can't figure out how to copy the image to my blog, but I promise it said #2.
That's you Carla!  WOOHOO!!
Drop me an email GF.  :-)

Thank you to everyone who played along and to those of you who are new followers.  I hope you can find a thing or two to inspire you here.
Back tomorrow with my A Day For Daisies project.  :-)
     Hugs!

Unconditional hugs

Hello my friends!  Today is new challenge day at Mo's Digital Pencil and I've chosen to use one of the sailor boys for our "Anything Goes" challenge.  Yep, that's right.  It's the first challenge of the month so that means anything goes.
I just love these little sailors and you can find the set in Mo's store right here.  He's colored in Copics of course and I used some My Mind's Eye Portabello Road papers to keep in the vein of the vintage look of his clothing.  Isn't his face just so sweet and so is his bear's!  Normally I'm just passably happy with how the hair turns out on my images, but I am really happy with this one.  He has easy hair though so maybe that's why it came out better.  LOL
Come join in the fun for your chance at a $5.00 gift certificate from Mo's store.
I have a little tip for some of you today.  I don't know about you, but I love to look at your posted cards up close.  Since Blogger made those major changes a while back, the default setting on everyone's blog makes clicked on photos pop up in those dreaded black light boxes that will not magnify.  It's super simple to change that so that visitors can blow up your card photos for a better look.
     Here are the simple steps:

  1. In the top right hand corner of your blog click on "Design".
  2. On the left hand side of the design page you'll find a list of options, click "Settings".
  3. In the secondary listing choose "Posts and Comments".
  4. Under Posts you'll see "Showcase images with lightbox", choose "NO".
  5. Save the settings and you'll be good to go.  :-)

Keep me in your thoughts today.  Our sweet friends have come in from Florida for a visit and their six year old will be spending the day with me tomorrow.  Keeping up with her is going to be a job for me.  LOL  It's been a while since I've had to chase my 21 year old daughter around.  I just love this little girl to pieces though so it will be worth it.
I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

Chocolate, Coffee, and Cards--anything goes

Well it's my birthday too, yeah

Yep, the old yearly calender has spun around another 365 days and it's time for me to celebrate another birthday.  June 29th will mark 47 years for me.  Gosh where has the time gone.  LOL
God has so richly blessed my life in SOOOOO many ways and one of those is through my blog.  I've met so many people I would never have had the chance to meet otherwise and made some good friends too.  Since this is a special day for me, I'd like to share it with you.
I'm offering a birthday candy prize of a $15.00 Gift Voucher to the amazing Mo's Digital Pencil store.  If you're a regular here, you know I ADORE Mo's images.  Being asked to join the Design Team was a dream come true.  I think most of you love these images too, so here's a chance to add some of her amazing digis to your stamp arsenal.

Here's what you need to do for your chance to win.

1.  You MUST be a follower of my blog.
(If you don't have a blog, please leave me a comment)
2.  Add your name to Mr. Linky below.
3.  ABSOLUTELY NO Candy Only blogs
4.  It's not mandatory, but I would really appreciate
it if you would spread the word about my

Since it's so close to my birthday, I'm going to leave the candy open for two weeks.  You have until July 4th to get linked up.  I will announce the winner on July 5th.
     Thanks for helping me celebrate!
